Ryan Hammond was one of the first photographers I met when I moved to Tucson….And he is a fantastic photographer. So when he asked me earlier this year to photograph his wedding to Joleen, I was both flattered and a little bit nervous. Photographing another wedding photographers wedding is a little bit like the President of the United States asking the President of China to cover for him while he’s on vacation – things are just not going to go well. I really do think all wedding photographers would just rather somehow photograph their own wedding. Most of us are just a little egotistical and have our own ‘best’ way of doing things. Amazingly, Ryan and Joleen asked nothing from me other than to do what I wanted, do it my way, and to please enjoy myself while I was at it!
This gorgeous wedding made me nervous. It was July. In Tucson. I might faint from the heat. The monsoon might blow everyone away. But Ryan and Joleen must have some great connections and superbly good luck, because it was a beautiful day! Tubac Golf Club is always a spectacular location. It’s in the desert, but there is grass, trees, a chapel, and amazing food. Dan Marries ‘married’ Ryan and Joleen in a beautifully personalized ceremony in the Chapel at Tubac Golf Club. If I had a good friend named Dan Marries, I’m pretty sure I would ask him to officiate my wedding too – I really do think he might have another career at this if he ever retires from news channel KOLD. Dinner was a Southern Style barbecue buffet that had me wishing I could find a way to smuggle some more food to my room for a late night snack ( this sweet couple had booked me a beautiful room for the evening as well). Andy of Satyr Entertainment brought his own mix of perfect lighting and music for the ceremony and reception – and yes, awesomely done lighting really does make a huge difference. I hope you guys enjoy these photos of one of the most perfect days ever!
