Can a wedding day be both traditional and yet non-tradtional? Can you mix hip and urban with romance and lace? Yes, yes you can. I think that Kat and Jon’s wedding was one of the most delightful weddings I’ve been privileged with photographing. They did everything their way, yet very tastefully and gave their friends and family a fun evening but in an off the beaten path way. A simple backyard wedding at Jon’s parents home, yet the small backyard was picture perfect, flowers were everywhere and friends and family helped run the entire event. Kat’s sister’s were her bridesmaids and their bright fushia lace dresses were a beautiful pop of color in this winter wedding backdrop. Her niece, Sophia, was an amazing flower girl who absolutely loves having her photos taken, as evidenced by the number of photos she managed to get into! A best friend conducted a touching and meaningful ceremony, music was ipod’d by another close friend, and all the men jumped in after the ceremony to move the chairs and set up a lovely cocktail hour. We stopped at the Tucson Botanical Gardens with just the bridal party for a short photo session just before the ceremony. Then after the ceremony and a champagne toast, the entire party of 50 headed to the Barrio Brewery for an evening of food and more toasts along with some dancing and beer of course.! Kat put together guest favors that highlighted pieces of Iowa (where she’s from), Tucson (where Jon’s from), and Malaysia (where they both live now). The cutest DIY photobooth was set up by the couple with an iphone on a stick, props, and a remote control with DIY instructions for the guests.
