A hand-painted sign carried down the aisle by the flower girl and ring bearer, birdseed cake hearts. Fresh ripe pears on the tables and thistles in the bouquets. Kathleen and Jason didn’t miss a touch for their autumn Hudson Valley wedding. Calm and serene are two perfect words to describe the atmosphere when I arrived at the hotel. Kathleen had even managed to squeeze in some yoga on the morning of her wedding day. Sylvia and Spencer led their aunt down the aisle at the Freedom Plains Presbyterian Church – one of the prettiest of the many old church’s in the Hudson Valley. Rain clouds seemed to be threatening as we all headed to Locust Grove after the ceremony, but they always seemed to stay just south of us. All those umbrellas that Kathleen bought ‘just in case’ turned out to be the rain insurance we needed – not a drop fell! And I can’t help but mention Spencer, the ring bearer again! I want to shoot his wedding – even though he’s only 3 and it’s going to be a LONG wait! He was the funniest little guy I’ve seen in a while – I think he was my best bud by the end of the night, even if he did try to bury me in the sand during the cocktail hour…..Oh, and speaking of the cocktail hour. I’m usually too busy to get more than a passing glance at the cocktail food, but the staff at Lola’s catering is fantastic and they made sure I got to taste a few things as I was photographing the room’s final appearance. The food was more than delicious….two thumbs up to Lola’s Catering and to Jimmy Lutz for the beautiful guitar music during the cocktail hour!
